Does Your Landing Page Support Your E-Mail Marketing Campaign?
E-mail marketing campaigns are increasing in frequency. In fact, your overall marketing campaign should include a permission-based program to keep your name in front of your customer on a frequent basis.
A variety of companies offer easy-to-use templates and programs to enable you to contact customers and prospects who have given their permission.
I use Mail Chimp - a pay as you go program that is so easy, even I have mastered the sytem. Chris Brown at Branding and Marketing offered up a list of several different e-mail campaign companies - so if you haven't jumped on the band wagon, you might look into one of the choices she mentions.
So now you are ready to start an e-mail campaign, what are some things you need to consider?
Joan Stewart of Publicity Hound talks about Four Fatal Flaws many companies make. You might craft the best Subject Line opener that has readers clicking through to read your message. Your brilliantly written e-mail copy increases their curiousity, like a fisherman, you almost have them hooked. They click your link through to your website and then....
DISASTER. Why? What went wrong?
In a survey conducted by SilverPop they determined:
1. Inconsistencies between the look, feel and voice of email campaign and the website turn off visitors.
2. If there is a call to action in the email, the website page the visitor is linked to doesn't reinforce that call.
3. Linking to the Home Page rather than the page you refer to (i.e. a specific product page) leaves visitors with no clue of where to find what you just got them excited about.
4. Visitors are not asked for their email address.
As you begin to develop an email campaign or in analyzing your existing campaign for effectiveness, consider these pitfalls and ask yourself - does my email message mesh well with my website?
