The other day I found I'd received a large brown package in the mail. I don't know about you, but when I see that I have something in the mail other than advertisements or bills, I get excited.
I looked at the return address and discovered it was from the Library of Congress. Last year I traveled to DC and got a library card at the Library of Congress. I thought perhaps they periodically sent all their card holders a package.
Okay, so it was at the end of the day and I wasn't thinking clearly.
I opened the package to discover a book and a story I'd mailed last year for copyright. It seems that I'd had old information and sent a check for $35 instead of $45.
Their letter said they'd mailed me a request for additional dollars but with my recent move and postal glitches, I never got the message.
So I will be reapplying this morning. But first I was stumbling around the web and found Brad Templeton's article about 10 Big Myths About Copyrighting. Interesting information if you are in need of copyrighting your writing, audio or video.
By the way, if you send the correct dollar amount the first time - the copyright process is really simple.
